Green Chargers roll to big win

The Huntington Beach Jr. Midget Green Chargers cruised to another

victory in Pop Warner football action as they defeated the Long Beach

Warriors, 36-6.

In control throughout the game, the Green Chargers’ biggest

highlight came on the final play of the first half, when quarterback

Justin DeValk and Kyle Clay connected on a 60-yard touchdown pass

play. Clay broke free from a would-be tackler and dashed to the end

zone as the first-half clock expired.

JR. PEE WEE DIVISION

Gold Chargers 13, Garden Grove 0

The Gold Chargers defense came up with two goal-line stands and

the offense played ball-control in blanking the Blue Bulldogs.

Sam Doxakis forced a fumble in the first half when he sacked the

Garden Grove quarterback, and the ball was recovered by teammate

Colby Johns. One play later, the Gold Chargers had their first

touchdown when Trevor Borkowski scored.

Doxakis recovered a second-half fumble by the Blue Bulldogs, which

the Gold Chargers converted into another score when Borkowski

recorded his second touchdown of the game.

Borkowski also had an interception.

FLAG DIVISION

Stanton 28, Cub Gold Chargers 13

Chase Foreman and Jason Fuga each scored for the Cub Gold Chargers

in their loss to the Raiders.

MIGHTY MITE DIVISION

Chargers 25, Yorba Linda 6

Getting strong play for its defensive and offensive lines, the

Chargers rolled past the Jaguars.

Robert Rice scored three touchdowns, Philip Knapp scored once, and

Steve Hernandez ran in an extra point.

PEE WEE DIVISION

Green Chargers 18, North Long Beach 18

In an exiting game, the Green Chargers overcame a 12-6 halftime

deficit -- only to have the score tied late in the game by the Black

Panthers.

North Long Beach scored the tying touchdown with 1:40 remaining,

but Huntington stopped the extra point attempt to preserve the tie.

La Mirada 13, Gold Chargers 6

The La Mirada Blue Matadores scored in the closing seconds to

defeat the Gold Chargers.

FUTURE LEAGUE DIVISION

Dolphins 12, Mona Park 7

The Huntington Beach Dolphins opened their season Saturday with a

win over the Mona Park Buccaneers at Huntington Beach High.

Javier Sanchez scored two touchdowns in the second quarter; the

second came on the last play of the first half.

Jake Parks and Steele Dubar led the Dolphins on defense.

The Dolphins next take on the South Bay Packers at Fremont High

School in Los Angeles.

In other games Saturday, the Jr. Pee Wee Orange Dolphins open

their season by hosting the Woodcrest Generals at 1 p.m. at

Huntington Beach High.
