COMMUNITY FACILITIES DISTRICT

The City Council adopted a resolution stating its intention to

establish a community facilities district for a downtown parking

structure, and a resolution of intention to incur up to $8 million in

debt to finance the garage. The city is committed to spend $5 million

for the 276-space garage that is part of The Collection mixed-use

development.

The city will pay off the debt bond with property tax dollars

generated by The Collection.

ECONOMIC ALLIANCE APPOINTMENT

The City Council approved naming Mayor Jef Vander Borght as its

representative to the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley to

replace former Councilwoman Stacey Murphy.

The alliance is a not-for-profit collective that promotes economic

development for its member cities, including Burbank, Glendale, Los

Angeles, San Fernando and Calabasas.

The city’s Redevelopment Agency contributes $25,000 annually to

the alliance. “It’s a good organization,” Vander Borght said.

“Some of the Caltrans projects we’ve been able to achieve have

been born as a result of their involvement to bring dollars to the

San Fernando Valley,” he added.

FENCE ORDINANCE COMMITTEE

The City Council directed city staff to assemble a blue-ribbon

committee to look at proposed changes to the ordinance on fence,

walls and hedges for private residences.

The number of committee members was not decided but the council

wanted to have representation from all areas of the city.

The council held off in August on approving the ordinance changes

-- which include raising the maximum height of fences and walls --

when faced with concerns from residents.
