Lions plan barbecue for Gulf Coast
The Costa Mesa Newport Harbor Lions club is hosting a barbecue to
raise funds for Hurricane Katrina relief. The event is from 10:30
a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today and Sunday at Goat Hill Junction on Placentia
Avenue in Costa Mesa, according to Raul Jara.
Model train engineers from around the United States will be
visiting the working trains at Goat Hill Junction during the weekend.
The public is invited to enjoy the barbecue and see the trains.
The Harbor Mesa Lions will have their 9th Annual Spaghetti Splash
Dinner on Sept. 24 at the home of Ann and Mike McIlroy. Funds from
the event will go to the Lions Clubs International Foundation
Hurricane Katrina Relief project.
The foundation will funnel all money directly to the victims and
none of it will go to administration costs. Harbor Mesa is hoping to
raise $1,000 for this cause.
The event starts at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $12 per person and will
include dinner, pool tournaments, dart games and an opportunity
drawing.
If you are interested in attending or contributing to the fund,
call (714) 641-0664 or (714) 962-0265.
The Rotary Club of Newport Irvine raised $9,300 at a recent
meeting to purchase generators, clothing and medical supplies for
Katrina victims. The items were delivered last weekend to Bay Saint
Louis, Miss., as part of the Rotary District 5320 Katrina Relief
Project.
Members of the Rotary Club of Newport Sunrise also joined in the
collection of items for the project, according to club president
Chris Szechenyi.
