California Republicans endorse state senator

State Sen. John Campbell announced late Thursday he has been

endorsed by the California Republican Party in his bid for the 48th

District Congressional seat.

It’s rare that the party endorses before a primary election, and

the Oct. 4 special primary will be a big one, with 10 GOP candidates

among the 17 congressional hopefuls on the ballot.

The state GOP endorsement tops a list of supporters that includes

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and local Republican fundraising groups

the New Majority and the Lincoln Club.

Event raises more than $2,000 for victims

A Costa Mesa woman who was raised in New Orleans organized an

event last weekend that raised more than $2,000 for hurricane

victims.

Jeanne Anne Singley, who hosted the event Sept. 10 on Saturday,

prepared New Orleans-style cuisine.

Attendees brought checks, participated in a raffle and donated to

a pajama drive.

Singley is planning to raise additional funds through a raffle.
