BURROUGHS VS. ST. FRANCIS

* WHEN: 7 p.m. Thursday.

* WHERE: Memorial Field.

* RECORDS: The Indians and Golden Knights are both 2-0.

* LAST WEEK: Burroughs defeated Verdugo Hills, 33-23; St. Francis

defeated Crescenta Valley, 40-7.

* OUTLOOK: The Indians will likely get a stiff test in their

nonleague game against visiting St. Francis. A representative from

the tough Mission League, the Golden Knights -- under Coach Jim Bonds

-- have allowed opponents just 19 points in two games. The team is

led by junior quarterback Stephen Peterson (25 of 35 for 244 yards,

one touchdown) and senior receiver Scott Stephens (210 yards, two

touchdowns). Burroughs and Coach Keith Knoop could make a huge

statement with an upset victory this week, which would give the team

a 3-0 record.

* SOMETHING INTERESTING: St. Francis is ranked No. 2 in CIF

Southern Section Division III.

BURBANK VS. OAKS CHRISTIAN

* WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday.

* WHERE: Memorial Field.

* RECORDS: The Bulldogs are 1-1; the Lions are 2-0.

* LAST WEEK: Burbank lost to Chaminade, 30-12; Oaks Christian

defeated Grace Brethren, 48-7.

* OUTLOOK: Behind junior quarterback Jimmy Clausen, the Lions --

ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division X -- are an offensive

juggernaut. Clausen is 23 of 37 passing for 301 yards, four

touchdowns and one interception for the two-time defending division

champions. The team also has an accomplished talent in junior

tailback Marc Tyler, who has rushed 21 times for 305 yards (14.5

yards a carry) and has four total touchdowns. The Bulldog secondary

will likely be kept busy and could get quite a workout against

Clausen and company in the nonleague game.

* SOMETHING INTERESTING: Oaks Christian has outscored its

opponents, 105-7, in two games to open the season.
