SPECIAL COUNCIL ELECTION

The council will consider ordering a special election to take

place to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Councilwoman

Stacey Murphy. The nomination period would take place during the

month of October with an anticipated election date of Jan. 24, 2006.

The clerk’s office is asking for $150,000 to pay for election costs.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council will likely order the special election take place.

NEW DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

The council will consider creating a new position of facility

development manager to oversee upcoming construction and renovation

projects. Currently, such oversight and coordination is done through

outside consultants.

They hope to create the position within the Public Works

Department and establish a monthly salary between $7,881 and $9,576

the city is estimated to save about $43,000.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council will likely approve establishing the position.

DRUG FORFEITURE MONEY

The council will consider amending the fiscal year 2005-06 budget

by accepting $216,000 from state and federal authorities as the

city’s share in drug asset forfeitures from cases handled by the

Burbank Police Department. The money would be used for the police

helicopter program, technological improvements, safety and

communication equipment for police officers and the Drug Abuse

Resistance Education Program.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council will most likely amend the budget and accept the

money.
