BURBANK VS. HOOVER

* WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday.

* WHERE: Moyse Field at Glendale High.

* RECORDS: The Bulldogs are 1-2; the Tornadoes are 2-1.

* LAST WEEK: Burbank lost to Oaks Christian, 50-10; Hoover lost to

Mojave, 35-21.

* OUTLOOK: The Bulldogs suffered more than just a loss last week

against Oaks Christian. During the game, Burbank starting senior

quarterback Jason Barbic broke his right thumb and Coach Greg Sobiech

said his player will be lost for the season. Not only will his

services be missed on offense, but Barbic -- a 2004 All-Area honoree

-- was also a force on defense as a linebacker. “This is a big blow

to our football team,” said Sobiech, who added Barbic will have

surgery on his injured thumb Thursday. “We will miss him on both

sides of the ball.” Junior Robert Linda will take over the starting

QB duties. Hoover’s best offensive weapon is senior running back Alex

Pantoja, who has carried the ball 50 for 311 and five touchdowns.

* SOMETHING INTERESTING: Although Friday’s contest will be a

nonleague game, when the teams meet next year, it will be a league

game as Burbank goes from the Foothill League to the Pacific League.

BURROUGHS AT CHAMINADE

* WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday.

* WHERE: Chaminade High.

* RECORDS: The Indians and Eagles are both 2-1.

* LAST WEEK: Burroughs lost to St. Francis, 13-10; Chaminade defeated Calabasas, 23-7.

* OUTLOOK: Although the Indians lost last week to the Golden

Knights -- ranked No. 2 in CIF Southern Section Division III -- they

proved they can do well against a tough team. The Burroughs defense

did a fine job, limiting St. Francis to just one touchdown. Coach

Keith Knoop’s squad did a solid job despite suffering from a huge

size disadvantage. Missing last week was senior quarterback Tony

Banuelos Jr., who was sidelined with a knee injury. However, he is

expected to suit up against Chaminade. Burroughs is led by senior

running back Thomas Kyle, who has 47 carries for 339 yards and four

touchdowns.

* SOMETHING INTERESTING: Cross-town rival Burbank lost to

Chaminade, 30-12, two weeks ago in a nonleague game.
