Leno is joking -- that’s what he does

Regarding Paul Wangsness’ letter slamming Jay Leno: Paul, lighten

up, it’s a joke. Get it? Leno is a comedian. Comedians do jokes.

Leno just happens to be better at it than the rest.

As for not hearing in his “bad rap” on community colleges, let me

fill you in. They take the camera to the college, and ask students

questions like “Where is the Atlantic Ocean?”

When these college students can’t answer that, they put them on

TV.

All Leno is doing is asking the questions and holding the mic.

The students are the ones that make it into a joke.

So why not get down off your self-righteous soap box, turn on the

TV at 11.35 p.m. and laugh along with everyone else.

Union doesn’t represent all views

My wife and I are both teachers and we don’t think the teachers’

union necessarily represents our views on any matter, particularly in

the political arena.

We are both conservatives and find the unions to be just about the

polar opposite of our views.

I can say we do make our decisions after carefully researching the

issues.

While we don’t necessarily agree with any administration, we

certainly don’t take the union’s positions on issues as unbiased

either.

Regarding Burbank Teachers Assn Vice-President Mike Marcos’

(English teacher at Burroughs High School) viewpoint about the money

-- it is not about the money.

It is about the money being spent without having any input.

I recall this country starting its move to independence from Great

Britain because of taxation without representation. The union is

doing that everyday. So, call me asinine for my viewpoint, but I’ve

been called worse.

Teachers’ dues can stay out of politics

As of a 1988 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court (Communications

Workers of America vs. Beck), union members already have the ability

to prevent their union dues from being used for political action. So

why all the fuss?

Does Gov. Schwarzenegger think that we haven’t noticed that

corporations spend 24 times as much as unions for political

advertising?

Talk about special interests
