Grumblers lack sound judgment

Omigosh -- owners of mega-dollar boats just learned that sea lions

bark.

Gadzooks -- let’s get out the militia and shoot those

inconsiderate beasts -- the sea lions, that is. That certainly would

be a start in taking care of the “noise” problem for everyone around

the bay.

We just finished reading the article about barking sea lions.

Million-dollar home and boat owners complain that sea lions bark

during the night and destroy property.

How sad their lack of judgment is. What were they thinking? They

moved to the beach and harbor and wanted quiet?

There are noises at the beach. We have been living in Newport

Beach off and on since we were children. The sounds during the night

fill our memories with delight and joy. What are these selfish folk

thinking?

Better yet, what do they expect? The silence of a movie set? The

perfection of a picture postcard? Not going to happen, not here, not

now, not never.

We can’t believe this is a story. We are so tired of the

self-centered behavior by a few elitists, their feeling of a right of

entitlement. Since when? By whom? Newport Beach is 100 years old and

suddenly sea lions are too loud?

One man said, “I would be happy if they all left.”

And then what? The seagulls? Then crows and hawks? Followed by the

rabbits, raccoons and squirrels? Maybe we can keep the water from

lapping on their precious docks and beaches. And, of course, those of

us who sail our Duffys will have all powerboats banned for noise as

well.

Last year it was the ducks on Balboa Island. They had to be

removed and relocated because they fouled million-dollar boats and

children picked up duck feces. Our mothers taught us not to pick up

feces. How hard is that?

Will residents order the seagulls be removed because they steal

picnic food from the beach and make a mess on docks?

Grow up.

Newport Harbor is a beautiful, natural environment. Learn to love

what you are blessed to have. Learn the responsibility that comes

with wealth and stop acting like spoiled children.

The sounds of nature are the sounds of life. And if you can’t

afford to keep your boat clean, then you can’t afford the boat.
