Brewer position on El Toro misstated

A letter to the editor recently appearing in the Pilot completely

misrepresents my supposed position on an airport at El Toro.

I want to be very clear -- I have o7neverf7 supported an airport

at El Toro! Nor have I ever worked on behalf of putting an airport at

El Toro.

In 1994, when I first ran for the state Assembly, my position was,

I wanted the highest and best use of the El Toro property. Please

check out o7www.Marilyn BrewerforCongress.comf7 for my stance on

this issue. In addition, I am opposed to the Greater Los Angeles

Airport Authority and will work vehemently against any action they

might take to promote an airport on the former Marine base.

I represented you with pride in the state Assembly from 1994 to

2000, the maximum service because of term limits. During my tenure, I

fought and delivered on behalf of the citizens of Laguna Beach. When

Main Beach was ravaged by winter storms, I secured monies and helped

expedite the process for a new boardwalk to be installed and sand

replenished.

During the Orange County bankruptcy, my legislation ensured that

Laguna Beach did not lose Bradley-Burns dollars that support the bus

system operating within the town.

I look forward to serving and fighting for Laguna Beach in

Congress. That includes the funds that are due from FEMA. I ask for

your support and vote on Oct. 4, 2005.

Beneficiaries should benefit from concerts

As a local musician, I’ve followed the Blue Water events and the

recent letters and response with interest. I’d like to offer some

thoughts and ideas. It was never clear to me reading the fliers and

cards that these were indeed benefits, and who specifically was

benefiting. If a concert is to simply “raise awareness,” then it

should be made very clear that those events are for-profit events. If

a concert is to be truly a benefit, then it would seem that local

businesses would be willing to offer reduced rates on their services.

The fliers and cards were truly beautifully designed -- but at what

cost? Also, the entire town was inundated with them, including at

times two, three or four in one business space -- this is a waste of

money and material. The word gets out really easily in Laguna,

particularly when the local papers are running ads.

Lastly, my bands have played numerous local benefits, including

Save the Canyon, Hurricane Relief, Fire Relief and more, and we

played either for a reduced rate or pro bono.

Why should locals come and pay a hefty entrance fee to see bands

who play around the area regularly when a large portion of the fee is

going to the band and not the cause?

A true benefit is a success when o7everyonef7 involved

contributes in whatever way they’re able. In this way, it makes it

much easier for the beneficiary to truly benefit.

Objecting to council members’ House race endorsements

Alas, Mayor Pearson-Schneider, next year’s mayor Steve Dicterow

and Councilwoman Cheryl Kinsman’s real colors are showing. All three

have endorsed State Senator John Campbell to fill Chris Cox’s former

seat in Washington, D.C.

John Campbell, who is often compared to Bob Dornan, wants to take

a woman’s choice away, stop stem cell research, form a new border

police force and deny so-called “illegals” drivers licenses.

It’s time to dump Pearson-Schneider, Dicterow and Kinsman.

We should start planning now how to do it. These three council

people do not represent a majority of Laguna Beach residents, and

it’s time to get rid of them.
