Jeannine Hoverson of Burbank was honored with a retirement party

Thursday after serving as a waitress for 44 years at the Tam

O’Shanter Inn the Tudor-style restaurant on Los Feliz Boulevard in

Los Angeles.

“I’ve fed the multitude long enough,” she said. “It’s time to move

down the highway of life.”

She was 25 in 1961 when she started working at the restaurant,

which is owned by Lawry’s.

“Lawry’s is a great family-owned company and the Tam is a great

place to work,” she said. “When I walked out the front door, I still

loved my job. I feel very fortunate to have worked there.”

During her tenure, the restaurant’s name changed to The Great Scot

in 1968. It was renamed Tam O’Shanter Inn in 1982 in honor of its

60th anniversary. The restaurant opened in 1922.

“I love the people I worked for and the people I worked with,” she

said.

Being an outgoing person, Hoverson said, she enjoyed seeing the

different people everyday.

“I like to keep moving,” she said. “I think I had ADD (Attention

Deficit Disorder) before they knew what the heck it was.”

Hoverson, a former Glendale resident, has two children, Russell

and Patricia and six grandchildren ranging in age from 10 to 32.

She plans to spend her free time enjoying her grandchildren and

going to estate sales.

Hoverson will really be missed, said Ana Schultz, sales and

banquet manager.

“She always had a smile on her face and was a real role model for

the girls who work here,” Schultz said. “She gets here earlier than

she needs to in the morning to make sure everything is set up like

it’s supposed to be and always said good morning to everyone.”
