BURBANK VS. GLENDALE

* WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday.

* WHERE: Moyse Field at Glendale High.

* RECORDS: The Bulldogs are 2-2; the Nitros are 1-3.

* LAST WEEK: Burbank defeated Hoover, 48-7; Glendale lost to

Temple City, 24-14.

* OUTLOOK: The Bulldogs received good news even before they took

the field Friday in a win against Hoover. Starting quarterback Jason

Barbic, who broke the thumb on his throwing hand two games ago, had

surgery Thursday to repair the injury. Barbic was supposed to be lost

for the season, however, Coach Greg Sobiech said the injury wasn’t as

severe as first thought, and the senior could be back in three weeks.

If he returns, Barbic would likely play only defense. Burbank will

try and make it two in a row against the Glendale-area schools. The

Nitros’ best offensive weapon is senior running back James Clay.

* SOMETHING INTERESTING: The Bulldog defense came up big last

week, forcing five turnovers.

BURROUGHS VS. CRESCENTA VALLEY

* WHEN: 7. p.m. Friday.

* WHERE: Memorial Field.

* RECORDS: The Indians are 2-2; the Falcons are 0-4.

* LAST WEEK: Burroughs lost to Chaminade, 41-0; Crescenta Valley

lost to La Canada, 57-10.

* OUTLOOK: The Indians are trying to bounce back after a

disappointing showing on Saturday against Chaminade. The game was

scheduled for Friday, but it had to be moved because of the Topanga

fire that raged close to the West Hills’ school. The Falcons have a

talented pair of receivers in seniors Grant Hardyment and Louis

Bustamante. The Indians have a solid offense led by senior

quarterback Tony Banuelos Jr. and senior running back Thomas Kyle

(397 yards rushing).

* SOMETHING INTERESTING: The Burroughs defense is allowing

opponents 22.7 points a game.

* RECORDS: The Guards are 0-3; the Broncos are 3-1.

* LAST WEEK: Bell-Jeff lost to Vasquez, 35-14; Kern Valley

defeated Cantwell Sacred Heart, 46-26.

* OUTLOOK: The Guards will be looking for their first win of the

season when they take on the High Desert League representative. The

team is still waiting for a big game from its offense, which is

averaging just 11 points a game. The Guards will hope to pump up

their offense against Kern Valley with running backs Jorge Chaidez

and Victor Marticorena. The Broncos are paced by senior running backs

Lukky Carr and Michael Gutierrez. The team’s defense is allowing

opponents just 16 points a game.
