Meeting on Aliso Creek planned

Athens Group will present a conceptual plan for redevelopment of the

Aliso Creek Inn and Golf Course at a town hall meeting planned from 7

to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the City Hall council chambers, 505

Forest Ave.

A previous Athens plan to expand the golf course into adjacent

wildlife preserve areas was opposed by many community members and

county officials.

John Mansour, Athens Group vice president, will present a

preliminary plan that reviews several issues affecting the property

and opportunities for improvement.

The preliminary plan is the result of many months of evaluating

the site, reviewing design options and meeting with members of the

community.

Voters league to discuss ballot measures

The Laguna Beach unit of the League of Women Voters will hold a

discussion of the ballot measures in the November election. The

meeting will take place at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of

Laguna Beach, 429 Cypress Drive, at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.

This will be the unit’s regular monthly meeting, but the

discussion is also taking place as a service for the wider community.

Flea market to benefit landslide victims

Village Laguna will host a flea market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 15, to raise funds for the Bluebird Canyon slide

victims. All proceeds will be donated to the nonprofit Laguna

Resource and Relief Center. The flea market will be held in the

parking lot of the Neighborhood Congregational Church on Glenneyre

Street at St. Ann’s, opposite the Woman’s Club.

Items for sale will include antiques, collectibles, furniture,

children’s toys and clothing, adult clothing and electronics such as

DVD players, televisions and cameras. Coffee and sweets will be

off by 7:45 a.m. the morning of the flea market.

Help sought for Gulf Coast library book drive

Community members are trying to organize a book drive to help

restock the libraries of the Gulf Coast region. All books will be

warehoused by the Texas Library Association’s Disaster Relief

Organization, said organizer Martha Slater.

To begin the book drive, companies or individuals are needed to

Surfrider to present program on water quality

The Laguna Beach Chapter of Surfrider Foundation will hold a

special meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Laguna Art Museum to

present a program titled “What’s the Water Quality Like in Laguna?”

Attendees will find out which beaches are safe in Laguna Beach and

throughout Orange County. An added attraction of this free meeting

will be the opportunity to tour the museum and preview the items that

Meeting on design review and open space

Councilwoman Jane Egly and Ilse Lenschow of the design review

board will speak at the Laguna North Neighborhood Assn. general

membership meeting, 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Wells Fargo Bank.

Topics of discussion will be the challenges facing Laguna Beach,

proposed changes to the design review process and the recently formed

coalition of organizations to oppose potential encroachment into open

spaces.

Following the program, the annual election of neighborhood

association officers and directors will be held. Refreshments will be

served.
