A lot on her plate

It’s entirely possible that when Snoop Dogg or Rod Stewart serves

appetizers at his house, he is looking at Timree Gold’s plate

designs.

It’s more plausible, though, that the music stars have her work on

a mantle.

Gold, a Newport Beach resident who custom-designs dishes and

accessories, handed out her products inside gift bags at this year’s

American Music Awards.

She incorporated artists’ lyrics, hobbies and even record labels

into colorful, personalized designs. It was a way for the 26-year-old

Gold to get the word out about her business, Timree Inc., which she

recently started.

In her studio on Balboa Peninsula, Gold has photos of herself

standing next to stars from that event.

Throughout the office are photos, shelves filled with inventory

and posters Gold made with inspirational messages like “Have a

Creative Day” or “You’re so sweet like Timree Inc.”

“It keeps us excited for the day,” said Julie Horgan, 25, Timree

Inc.’s business manager.

The two work together out of a converted antique house, taking

orders and placing items in the window.

“You give me a scenario and four important things about a person,

and I put it together into a piece of art,” Gold said.

She grew up in Newport Beach wanting to be an artist, and she

learned painting skills from her father. In college, Gold began to

make personalized gifts. She realized she could make a career out of

her hobby.

“I love watching her create a piece,” Horgan said. “I can see how

much fun she’s having.”

Gold specializes in designing items for births, weddings and

holidays. She always asks customers if they want a personalized

message on the back.

Horgan said the products are great gifts for girlfriends. She also

takes Gold’s products to the annual Christmas Company show in Costa

Mesa.

Gold’s shirt is typically caked in paint because she spends more

than 10 hours a day in the studio working with a special porcelain

paint from France.

The items are priced from $26 to $399.
