Local Jr. All-American football teams raise $500 to help those affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The Huntington Beach Dolphins Jr. All-America Football and Cheer raised $500 toward relief efforts for victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the local chapter announced.
Donation buckets were placed at the snack bar and practice fields, with league families generously donating.
Members of the Clinic Division cheer team donated from their own piggy banks, Clinic cheer coach Tracy King-Wenschlag said.
One of the chapter’s football teams donated $80 from a recent garage sale it held, King-Wenschlag said.
The Dolphins’ board of directors matched the money raised during the fundraising effort to bring the total to $500.
King-Wenschlag said that the league presented the money to a local chapter of the American Red Cross on Tuesday during practice at Huntington Beach High.
