Lions rally in second half
SAN DIEGO -- Heather Hutton and Erika Barlow each scored a second half goal as Vanguard defeated San Diego Christian, 2-1, in a Golden State Athletic Conference women’s soccer match on Tuesday.
The Lions improved to 9-5-2, 1-7-1 in conference. Hutton scored the first Vanguard goal off a penalty kick, tying the score at 1-1. Lauren Walker assisted on the final goal, scored by Barlow in the 78th minute.
Kelsey Bowman had three saves for the Lions, and Marissa Welliver, who played the second half, had one.
MENS’ SOCCER
Cypress 4, Orange Coast College 2
COSTA MESA -- Joel Walker scored the first goal against visiting Cypress in the 27th minute, but the Centurions scored one at the end of the half, and three in the second half to increase the lead, 3-1.
Florentino Soria scored a final OCC goal off an assist by Scott Locken in the 90th minute.
OCC goalkeeper Trent Painter tallied four saves as the Pirates fell to 11-5-3, 6-3-0 in the Orange Empire Conference Tuesday.
WOMENS’ SOCCER
Orange Coast College 3, Santa Ana 0
SANTA ANA -- OCC led the Dons at the half, 2-0, after two unassisted goals by freshman Rachel Ronquillo.
OCC sophomore Ashley Boyer widened the gap with a goal in the 87th minute, while Lindsey Shook and Kara DeMille kept the Dons scoreless with two saves each.
OCC, which outshot Santa Ana, 11-5, remains in third place in the Orange Empire Conference, five points ahead of the Dons.
WOMENS’ VOLLEYBALL
UC Irvine def. Cal State Northridge
NORTHRIDGE -- Trisha White had a match-high 18 kills and three service aces in UC Irvine’s 30-24, 30-28, 30-28 Big West Conference victory Tuesday.
UCI (9-13, 2-5 in conference) was led by setter Christa Conom, who had 38 assists to go with six digs. Libero Jennifer Moser followed with 11 digs, and Devon Sutherland finished with 10.
