Sea Kings get their revenge

LAGUNA BEACH -- Corona del Mar High’s girls’ golf team, which lost to Aliso Niguel by two shots in the previous meeting, got its revenge with a 213-217 victory over the Wolverines at Aliso Creek Ridge Course on Wednesday.

It was the first Pacific Coast League loss for Aliso Niguel.

Medalist Jona Kim led the pack, shooting a 39 on the par-35 course for the Sea Kings (10-4, 7-3 in the Pacific Coast League). Jessica Milner assisted in the win with 40, along with Katie McKitterick (42) and Kelly Kawata and Courtney Wright, who each shot 46.

Corona del Mar will compete in the league finals Monday.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Costa Mesa def. Saddleback

SANTA ANA -- The Mustangs battled the host Roadrunners to a 25-23, 26-28, 29-27, 25-11 Golden West League victory Wednesday.

Costa Mesa fell behind in the first game, but a late comeback gave the Mustangs the first game. In the third game, Costa Mesa won after several lead changes for a two-game lead and went on to defeat a depleted Roadrunners squad.

The Mustangs, who hold third place in league, have two league matches remaining. If Costa Mesa wins at least one of the matches, it will advance to the CIF Southern Section playoffs.

Corona del Mar

LAGUNA BEACH -- The visiting Sea Kings fell, 25-17, 25-23, 25-20, to the Breakers in Pacific Coast League action Tuesday night.

Marisa Scott recorded nine digs and Kasey Kipp added six kills and four blocks for Corona del Mar, which fell to 5-12 overall and 5-5 in league.

The Sea Kings play in the Rim of the World Tournament Friday and Saturday.

GIRLS’ FIELD HOCKEY

Newport Harbor 4,

Westminster 0

NEWPORT BEACH -- Newport Harbor, the second-place finisher in the Sunset League, concluded league play Wednesday with a victory over Westminster.

A goal by Danica Kalmbach gave the Sailors an early 1-0 lead. Kalmbach came back to score two more goals -- one in the first half, and one in the second -- and Alex Conley scored in the second half.

The Sailors await information on who their postseason opponent will be.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Newport Harbor 19, Irvine 3

NEWPORT BEACH -- The Sailors, playing without sophomore Clinton Jorth, captured their third league victory Wednesday.

The Vaqueros allowed nine different Sailors to score, including Jared Yocum (4), Riley Hayes (3), Gregory Parker (3), Broc Hill (2), Justin Eakin (2), Brett Auer (2), Blake Hockenbury (1), James Jackson (1), Telford Cottam (1).

Newport (17-3, 3-0 in league) will visit Laguna Hills Tuesday.
