Vanguard sweeps Warriors

college roundupCOSTA MESA -- The Vanguard University women’s volleyball team defeated visiting Westmont, 30-25, 30-24, 30-21, in a Golden State Athletic Conference match Saturday.

Michal Shortridge led the Lions with 15 kills, while Jaclyn Lee added 14 kills in the victory. Melissa Cothran registered 38 assists, and Jen Michaelson, Keri DeHaas and Kim Wynn all tallied double digits in digs.

Lee and Shortridge supplied the power in the deciding third game, posting six and five kills, respectively.

Vanguard improves to 20-8, 7-8 in the GSAC and moves ahead of the Warriors (15-11, 7-9) into seventh place in the conference standings.

IRVINE -- The Anteaters were swept by visiting Cal Poly, 30-21, 30-17, 30-26, in a Big West Conference match Saturday.

Kristin Kelley posted a team-high seven kills, while Amanda Vazquez added six for the Anteaters (9-15, 2-7 in the Big West). Cal Poly improves to 15-5, 8-3.
