college roundup for WedsHUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College men’s soccer team defeated host Golden West, 3-0, Tuesday in an Orange Empire Conference game.
Trent Painter tallied eight saves for OCC, which improved to 12-6-3, 7-4-0 in the OEC.
Joel Walker, who had two goals for OCC, scored the first in the 5th minute, and Chris Dunckle increased the lead to 2-0 four minutes before halftime.
OCC hosts the Dons in a final game Friday.
WOMENS’ SOCCER
Westmont 3, Vanguard 0
SANTA BARBARA -- The Lions held the Warriors to three shots in the first half, but Westmont’s Katie Rhodes broke a scoreless tie with an unassisted goal in the 47th minute.
Amy Lawson and Jane Wyche added two in the second half for Westmont (10-2-3, 5-2-3).
Vanguard fell to 10-6-2, 5-3-2.
WOMENS’ VOLLEYBALL
Fresno Pacific def. Vanguard
COSTA MESA -- The Vanguard University women’s volleyball team lost, 30-19, 30-9, 30-25, to Fresno Pacific, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, on Tuesday in a Golden State Athletic Conference home match. Michal Shortridge led the Lions with six kills. Marissa Cothran contributed 18 assists in the defeat.
Vanguard (20-9, 7-9 in conference) play Thursday at Point Loma Nazarene. Both teams are tied for seventh in the conference.
