Eagles find newfound success

est. golf feature for thursLed by Gleason and You, Estancia’s girls’ golf team reaches new heights this season.Just two short years ago, a good portion of the Estancia High girls’ golf team members was new to the sport entirely.

During practices, Eagles’ Coach Art Perry had the newcomers tee off in the middle of the fairways to shorten the holes.

Just two years ago, it was hard to imagine a successful season any time soon. But Perry and the players knew that a championship team was in the works.

“We had a lot of potential that year,” junior Lina You said. “We’ve seen league coming at us for a couple of years.”

This season, Estancia hit pay dirt behind the heavy and precise swinging of You and junior Bridget Gleason, winning Perry his first Golden West League title in his seven-year stint at the helm.

“They have been playing consistently all year,” Perry said. “One would win one day, the other would win another day.”
