No Boom Boom for Pitt, Clooney

Contrary to news reports that George Clooney and Brad Pitt have purchased the Boom Boom Room, representatives of both actors say it’s not the case.

Clooney’s publicist, Dan Rosenfield, said the rumor is “100% false.”

The office of Brad Pitt’s publicist, Cindy Guagenti, also denied the report.

Stories about the sale of the club to Hollywood royalty began circulating in August, sparking concerns in the gay community that Laguna could lose one of its prime nightspots.

Dog Park backers plan meeting

Friends of Laguna Beach Dog Park, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserve, protect and improve the Laguna Beach Dog Park, will hold a general membership meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at Tivoli Too, 777 Laguna Canyon Road.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide members and interested parties with updated information about issues affecting the dog park. This will also be an opportunity for members to voice any concerns they may have.

Membership is free, but there is an annual fee of $25 for voting member. A free Friends of Laguna Beach Dog Park T-shirt is included in the fee for first-time voting members. T-shirts and hats will also be available for purchase separately.

Holiday palettes up early

The city’s holiday palettes have been put up two weeks early, according to Sian Poeschl of the Community Services Department.

The early start to the holiday look was due to scheduling the work with city employees, she said.

Local artists compete each year for the privilege of designing the palettes.

Local woman advances in comedy contest

Lola Gillebaard of Laguna Beach could be the funniest person in Orange County.

Gillebaard is a finalist in the “Orange County’s Funniest Person Competition.” The finals competition is at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Martini Blues, 5874 Edinger Ave., Huntington Beach. $15 cover charge. Reservations:(714)840-2129.

Hospital to hold a holiday boutique

South Coast Medical Center’s Auxiliary will present the Holiday Affaire, featuring the new Winter Wonderland, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 9 in the hospital lobby.

The holiday boutique will include new and handmade gift items, including holiday decorations and gift ideas. Featured jewelry from the Little Black Dress will be available, complete with custom holiday wrapping. Opportunity drawings and silent auction tickets will be for sale throughout the day. Democrats to stump for Steve Young

The November meeting of the Laguna Beach Democratic Club will be a working meeting to help get out the vote for Steve Young, the Democratic candidate for the 48th District U.S. House of Representatives seat. The runoff election to fill the seat vacated by Chris Cox will take place Dec. 6.

The meeting will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Laguna Beach, 429 Cypress Street.

Women’s Art and Craft Sale is scheduled

The Woman’s Club of Laguna Beach will host a Holiday Women’s Art and Craft Sale from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13.

Auction items to benefit the clubhouse restoration project will also be available. Neighbors, friends and families are welcome to this free event. The clubhouse is located at 286 St. Ann’s Drive on the corner of Glenneyre.

Unitarian Fellowship holds Sandwich Sunday

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Laguna Beach will hold a Sandwich Sunday at noon Nov. 13 at the fellowship, 429 Cypress Drive.

E. Kay Trimberger, author of “The New Single Woman,” will discuss her book and sign copies. The talk is free, but lunch will be $6 for adults and $3 for children. (949) 497-2557.
