Orange Dolphins win playoff opener
Defense is the key in a 21-6 victory over Fountain Valley.The Huntington Beach Jr. Pee Wee Orange Dolphins opened postseason play Saturday with an impressive 21-6 victory over the Fountain Valley Jaguars in Jr. All-American Football action.
The Orange Dolphins never trailed in the game, and the victory sets up a second-round playoff battle Saturday against the Corona Panthers.
Huntington took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a touchdown run by quarterback Brandon Wooten and a point-after run by Damien Williamson.
Fountain Valley scored what turned out to be its only touchdown at the outset of the second quarter, but the Jaguars failed on a point-after conversion run, an attempt stopped by Dane Perkins and the Orange Dolphins defensive line.
Huntington began to pull away shortly after Fountain Valley’ score when Donald Rice scored on a touchdown pass and Williamson provided the point-after run.
A fumble recovery by Matthew Tavakoli thwarted a Fountain Valley possession later in the quarter, and the Orange Dolphins took a 14-6 lead into the half.
A 30-yard run by Williamson in the third quarter moved Huntington down to the Jaguar goal line, and Trevor Jackson completed the drive with a short touchdown run. Rice ran in for the point after.
The defensive play of Wooten, Jerritt Rodenas, Anthony Rodriguez, Alex Alagata and Justin Fallon shut down Fountain Valley in the second half.

Baldwin Hills 14, Huntington 0 The Baldwin Hills Bruins scored the game’s only touchdowns in the opening half of play and went on to eliminate Huntington in first-round play.
Dusty Stewart came up with a pair of interceptions in the second half, and the defensive play of Nick Tricarico and Brad Dominick helped shut out the Bruins in the second half.
The Clinic Orange Dolphins were coached by Dave Oakley and assistants Mike Escobedo, Chuck Maguire, Bill Stewart, Wayne Berge, Marc Patterson and Terry Jack.
