Mad Dogs take down Knockouts

Moe Vellanoweth scores three goals in the 4-1 victory.The Mad Dogs dashed the postseason hopes of the Knockouts by pinning a 4-1 defeat on their rival in AYSO Region 55 girls’ under-12 division pool play action.

The Mad Dogs took control in the first quarter by posting three goals. Two of those goals were recorded by Alexa “Moe” Vellanoweth, and one was scored by Caroline Fowler.

With her team leading 3-1, Vellanoweth scored her third goal of the match, this one in the fourth quarter, to put the game out of reach.

Also contributing to the victory were Sloan Turner, Grace Gonzell, Jennifer Lucas, Afton Siegel, Lauren Nickol, Sarah Carr, Kerry McDonald, Kelly Forth, Whitney Palmer, Niki Geiger, Krista Kittredge and Katie Carr.

Under-10 Division

Dolphins 6, Purple Poison 1

The Dolphins clinched a spot in the division’s upcoming eight-team tournament with a five-goal win over Purple Poison.

The scoring began for the Dolphins in the first quarter when forward Madeline Bragg scored on a centering pass from Diana Schwene. The score moved to 2-0 in the second quarter when Hanna MacNew delivered a kick into the right corner of the net.

Goalie Ariel Thelander, sweeper Tiffany Imhoff and fullbacks Nicole Halverson and Maria Steadmon combined to shut down Purple Poison in the first half.

The Dolphins broke the match open in the third period, as Schwene posted three goals. Assists on two of those goals came from Natalie Martz and Jessica Johancsik.

Purple Poison netted its first goal in the fourth quarter on a score by forward Madelyn Hopfensperger to make it 5-1. The Dolphins capped their scoring on MacNew’s second goal of the contest, this coming off an assist from Cameron Moore.

Carly Illeck, who also played in goal, and fullback Carolyn Yeealso turned in strong defensive efforts for the Dolphins.
