Bank falls victim to low-key heist

Police, FBI seek suspect who handed a note to teller, made off with an unspecified amount of cash. No weapon was displayed in robbery.Police and FBI agents are looking for a man who robbed a Laguna Beach bank Wednesday morning.

The suspect handed a note to an employee of the World Savings Bank at 250 Broadway and received an unspecified amount of money, police said.

The suspect did not display a weapon during the robbery, which took place at 11:19 a.m.

Two customers and several employees were in the bank at the time. No one was injured.

Laguna Beach Police searched the area but did not find the suspect. He was last seen walking westbound from the business.

The FBI, which has primary jurisdiction over bank robberies, has started an investigation.

The suspect was described as a white male in his 30s or 40s, very thin, approximately five feet nine, with a wrinkled neck, tan complexion, a hawk-like nose and steeply sloping shoulders.

He was wearing a flannel shirt over a white dress shirt, a black tie, dark pants, a red-and-black checkered hat and sunglasses. He spoke with a stutter or some other speech impediment, police said.
