Local firefighters sent to battle Ventura blaze
Firefighters from Costa Mesa and Newport Beach were dispatched early Friday to assist in battling a Ventura forest fire.
Newport-Mesa firefighters went along with crews from Anaheim, Huntington Beach and Fullerton.
Late Thursday, the Newport Beach Fire Department also deployed a second engine with an additional team to the Ventura fire.
California fire agencies have a statewide agreement that when an emergency overwhelms a city’s resources, backups are called in, starting with nearby agencies.
Depending on the incident, resources can be pulled from agencies within the region, state and, in some cases, across the country, fire officials said.
In September, Newport-Mesa firefighters joined a team that assisted in a fire in Topanga Canyon.
