Lions shoot past UCI

uci women’s hoopsIRVINE -- Visiting Loyola Marymount made 17 of 30 first-half field-goal attempts (56.7%) and shot 51.7% for the game to defeat UC Irvine, 93-73, in nonconference women’s basketball action Monday.

The Lions (1-1) made 6 of 7 three-point attempts on their way to a 54-38 halftime edge, and the Anteaters (0-2) shot just 37.5% from the field (24 of 64) for the game.

UCI junior guard Angie Ned, who led the team in scoring last season with 16.1 points per game, was 1 of 7 from the field. She finished with two points in 19 minutes before fouling out.

Sophomore Stephanie Duda led the hosts with 13 points and added seven rebounds. Sophomore Miranda Forry added 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds for the ‘Eaters.

Lauren Yadon, Melissa Jacob and Haley Tull all scored eight points for UCI, which committed 27 turnovers.

Loyola Marymount had five players score in double figures, led by Amanda Patton with 18. Patton connected on 5 of 7 three-point attempts to help the Lions finish 7 of 10 from beyond the arc.

Freshman Kirian Ishizaki came off the bench to lead the Anteaters with five assists and Kelly Cochran had six points and five rebounds in 13 minutes for UCI.
