Sandpiper streak now at 7 games

The team remains unbeaten in city softball league play.Sandpiper remained unbeaten on the season, widening its lead in the race for the Tuesday League regular season title in the city of Community Services Department’s men’s 16-inch slow-pitch softball program.

In Thursday League action, Puswatrkylegs was upended by Courtesy Auto Body but still maintained a one-game lead over the rest of the league pack.

In Tuesday League action:

Sandpiper 11, DUI Fighters 4

Sandpiper ran its win streak to seven games at the expense of the DUI Fighters.

Lead-off batter Chris Howell hit two home runs, singled twice, collected four RBI and scored three runs for Sandpiper, who with the win took a two-game lead over second-place Team Viagra with three regular season games remaining.

Ryan Neptune added a solo home run and a sacrifice fly to add two RBI to the Sandpiper cause.

Chuck Maretzky doubled and singled twice, and Scott Borthwick hit a solo homer and singled to pace DUI Fighters.

Team Viagra 9, Red Rum 7

Team Viagra overcame a 6-1 deficit after two innings to pick up its second straight win.

Trailing 6-1 heading into the third inning, the league’s second-place team scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning as Keith Mulvaney and Teo Moore hit back-to-back home runs.

Tam Viagra went on to score four more runs in the fourth when Nate Pivaroff and Moore capped the team’s scoring by each hitting a two-run home run.

For Red Rum, Matt Johnson tripled and doubled, and Allen Krist hit a solo home run.

Ganahl Lumber 9, C-Dawgs 1

John Campbell hurled a four-hitter -- giving up only singles -- as Ganahl Lumber kept the C-Dawgs winless in fall play.

Dave Miller drove in four of Ganahl Lumber’s nine runs with home runs in each of the first two innings. Robert Bonn homered in the third and also singled twice. Tony Lopez drove in the only run produced by the C-Dawgs.

Tuesday League standings: 1. Sandpiper, 7-0; 2. Team Viagra, 5-3; 3. Ganahl Lumber, 4-3; 4. Red Rum, 3-4; 5. DUI Fighters, 2-5; 6. C-Dawgs, 0-7.

In Thursday League action:

Courtesy Auto Body 6, Puswatrkylegs 4

Courtesy Auto Body tightened the league race by handing Puswatrkylegs its second loss.

Steve McMillen hit a home run and singled twice to finish with three RBI, and Michael Buchanan doubled and singled twice for Courtesy Auto Body.

The Puswatrkylegs got a home run and single from John Reynard and a double and single from Ryan Schissler.

Pancakes 12, Hamstrings 12

Robert Sheehan delivered a grand slam and Adam Palporto hit a three-run home run for the Pancakes in their tie with the Hamstrings.

Ryan Kingman and Rob Malone came up with back-to-back home runs in the third inning for the Hamstrings.

It was the second tie for each team in fall play.

Hotwings 5, Compound Fractures 4

Beau Bianchi connected on a three-run home run in the seventh inning to lift the Hotwings to their first win of the fall season.

Aaron Talarico and Bob Jameson each had a pair of singles for the winners. Steve Hurst hit two home runs that led to three runs for Compound Fractures.
