Lions’ win is nearly wire to wire

COSTA MESA -- Vanguard University’s men’s basketball team led for all but two minutes and 22 seconds, routing the University of La Verne, 73-53, in a nonconference game Friday night.

Levi Seekins had a big game for the Lions, finishing with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Brian Roberts 12 points, including two three-pointers.

The Lions (5-1) took the lead for good at the 17:38 mark in the first half on Tim Burnette’s layup. La Verne (0-2) helped out by missing all 11 of its three-point attempts in the half.

Burnette grabbed eight rebounds in the contest and had four steals. Horace Wormely chipped in with six points, five assists and two steals.

The Lions will open the Golden State Athletic Conference schedule on Tuesday at San Diego Christian.
