Estancia spreads the wealth in lopsided victory over Bolsa Grande, the team’s second consecutive shutout.COSTA MESA -- After dropping its first three games of the season against bigger schools, including its opener against Santa Margarita -- the No. 1-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division I -- the Estancia High boys’ soccer team has been lighting up the nets.

The Eagles got goals from eight different players in a 10-0 victory over Bolsa Grande on Wednesday at Estancia High.

The Eagles (2-3) have outscored their opponents, 15-0, the last two games.

“We have two freshmen forwards and eight returners, and they are all offensive-minded,” Estancia Coach Gannon Burks said. “We like to spread the field -- midfielders and defenders run up on offense -- which I don’t have a problem with, as along as they get back on defense.”

The Eagles took 32 shots on goal and 10 corner kicks against Bolsa Grande, which only had 11 players dressed.

“[It] makes it easy on me,” Bolsa Grande Coach Bryan Stanley said. “I don’t have to worry about substituting people in and out.”

While Bolsa Grande (0-4) embarks on what could be a long season, Estancia has plenty to look forward to, including what could be a high-powered offense.

Freshman forward Jorge Olivas and senior forward Pedro Duarte had two goals each for the Eagles.

Olivas opened the game’s scoring with a goal off a crossing pass from Roberto Garcia in the 24th minute. He added a second goal in the second half, when he redirected a pass from Eric Duarte into the open net to give the Eagles an 8-0 lead.

Pedro Duarte scored both of his goals in the second half. He snatched a loose ball in the box and placed it in the low left corner of the net for his first goal. Late in the second half, he scored on a penalty kick after he was fouled driving in alone on Bolsa Grande goalkeeper Gerardo Juarez.

Jose Rodriguez, Edgar Rodriguez, Luis Gallardo, Danny Perez, Hector Diaz and Lorenzo Todisco all added goals for the Eagles.

“Bolsa Grande only had 11 players, it’s not what we expected, but a win is a win,” Burks said. “We were able to get our touches, pass the ball around, communicate and work on keeping a triangle around the ball at all times, which is what we want to do.”

Alex Salguero led the defensive effort for Estancia, which allowed just three shots on goal. Goalkeeper Marco Burciaga had just one tough chance, but he made a save on Bolsa Grande’s Brian Zambrano.
