Fowler’s goal helps girls’ team defeat Double Trouble, 4-3. In boys’ play, HB Inferno clinch the championship. The outcome of the AYSO Region 55 girls’ under-12 division championship match between the Mad Dogs and Double Trouble wasn’t decided until the final minutes of regulation Saturday.

It took a goal by Caroline Fowler -- her first of the match -- to break a tie and give the Mad Dogs a 4-3 title-clinching victory.

Double Trouble had jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage, but Alexa Vellanoweth put the Mad Dogs on top by scoring goals in the first and second quarters.

The Mad Dog’s lead was short-lived, however, as Double Trouble scored consecutive goals to take a 3-2 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Mad Dogs began their comeback with a goal from Grace Gonzell to tie the match after three quarters. Both defenses were hard to penetrate in the fourth quarter, until Fowler broke through to score the winning goal.

Other members of the Mad Dogs contributing to the victory were Katie Carr, Sarah Carr, Kelly Forth, Afton Siegel, Lauren Nikol, Sloan Turner, Whitney Palmer, Niki Geiger, Krista Kittredge, Jennifer Lucas and Kerry McDonald.

In boys’ playoff action:
