Moorpark downs OCC

LOS ANGELES -- Orange Coast College’s men’s basketball team fell to Moorpark, 82-61, in the championship game of the L.A. Southwest Intensity Classic on Saturday night.

It marked the second time this season the Pirates have reached a tournament title game. Orange Coast opened its season by winning the Ventura Tournament.

Steven Cornett led the way with a team-high 13 points and seven rebounds. Reggie Brown tallied 10 points and three assists, and Steve Mendoza added nine points, going 3-for-3 from three-point range.

Mark Wells and David McGrath paced Moorpark (9-4) with 17 points each. Moorpark connected on 15 of 37 three-point shots, five of them by Wells and four by Caise Burris.

Orange Coast, which fell to 9-4 this season, opens action in the Glendale Tournament on Wednesday. The Pirates will face Antelope Valley in the first round.
