Dailey receives top CIF honor

all cif selections polo, volleySage Hill volleyball standout is Co-Player of the Year, while several Newport and CdM water polo players are awarded.Sage Hill School senior volleyball standout Cat Dailey was selected the CIF Southern Section Division IV Co-Player of the Year, while her coach, Dan Thomassen was named the Co-Coach of the Year, highlighting girls’ volleyball and boys’ water polo All-CIF selections released Monday.

Newport Harbor’s boys’ water polo team had three All-CIF Division I first-team selections, and Corona del Mar had two first-team selections to spotlight the Newport-Mesa area water polo standouts.

The Cal-bound Dailey led the Lightning in kills this season and helped, along with Thomassen, lead the program to the CIF Division IV-A title, also the school’s first CIF title.

Sage Hill swept Academy League rival St. Margaret’s on Nov. 19 for the crown.

Junior Kelsey Lawler was named a first-team selection, while senior Haywood Wright was selected to the second team.

No other Newport-Mesa volleyball players were selected.

Newport Harbor seniors Clay Jorth, Brett Auer and Telford Cottam were All-CIF Division I first-team boys’ water polo selections, while Corona del Mar seniors Tom Money and Jacob Murphy were also selected to the Division I first team.

Tars’ junior Bryce McLain and Sea Kings’ senior Kyle Hersh were second-team selections, and seniors Parker Gregory (Newport Harbor) and Phillip DiGiacomo (CdM), along with Sailors’ junior Broc Hill, were third-team selections.

Costa Mesa senior Kyle Thorsness was named to the All-CIF Division II second team, while Sage Hill senior Julian Tooma was an All-CIF Division VI second-team selection.
