Misfits play the role of champion

Team notches victory over Thunder to win Lemieux Division.The Misfits used a big third period to pull away from the Thunder and claim the Lemieux Division championship, 7-3, at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach.

The Misfits took a 4-3 lead into the third period, where they outscored the Thunder, 3-0.

It was a one-man wrecking crew on offense for the Misfits: Daniel Gibson scored all seven goals.

Two of those goals came off feeds from Tyler Bales.

Ethan Berg recorded 31 saves.

Jimmy Hocker scored two of the three goals by the Thunder, with Mitchel Gonzales opening up his team’s scoring with a goal in the first period.

Gonzales also had an assist, and Jordan Wallace added two of his own.

Shaun Ellis finished with 26 saves.

In other division championship action:

Wales Division

Storm 4, Grinders 3

Daniel Lewis scored late in the third period to lift the Storm past the Grinders.

Michael Gutierrez topped the Storm with two goals and Erich Post Jr. scored once.

Chris Weldon picked up an assist and Jessica Quinones had 26 saves.

The Grinders posted goals in each of the three periods, with Andrew Willingham, Dean Metherell and Luke Loggins each breaking into the scoring column.

Anthony Ellis came up with 40 saves.

Howe Division

Blackhawks 4, Thrashers 1

The Blackhawks jumped out to an early lead and held on to defeat the Thrashers.

Their offense consisted of four goals by Sean Mastro and an assist each from Connor Culhane and Samantha Woodside.

The Thrashers’ lone score came in the third period when David Luther scored on a play set up by Kyler Scott and Lucas Young.

Kourtney Kunichika had 23 saves.

Patrick Red Division

Thunder 5, Blue Crew 4

In a match evenly played throughout, the difference came in the second period, where the Thunder outscored the Blue Crew, 1-0.

Each team scored once in the first period and three times in the third.

Chris Nosalekled led all scorers with three goals, and Nathan Bergeron and Dylan Dongird each scored once. Adam Anderson had a pair of assists, and Tristian DeBoom, Jordan Conaway and Jacob Gonzales each had one.

Joseph Baltazar had 27 saves.

Jayce Borski scored twice and Brian Pumphrey and Tyler Allen once each for the Blue Crew. William DeWit and Zachary Jezulin each had two solo assists and teamed up on another scoring play.

Nicholas Jezulin had 35 saves.
