A spot in art history for those who sit still
For people who’ve always dreamed of appearing in tableaux vivant, Pageant of the Masters offers the opportunity of a lifetime. The Pageant of the Masters is looking for men, women and children to volunteer for next summer’s show.
People of all sizes and ages are needed to be cast members in the presentation of tableaux vivant (living pictures) staged nightly during the summer at the Irvine Bowl.
Prospective volunteers will be measured and photographed and meet the pageant staff.
No theater experience is necessary. The only requirement is the ability to stand still, officials said.
Volunteers are also needed for positions in the wardrobe, makeup and headdress departments, as well to coordinate the cast area and serve refreshments.
“They are the most important aspect of the pageant -- without them there wouldn’t even be a show,” director Diane Challis Davy said of the volunteers.
By volunteering for the pageant, students can earn credit toward community service requirements.
Casting call will be held at the following times:
* Saturday, Jan. 7, 7 to 9 p.m.
* Sunday, Jan. 8, 2 to 5 p.m.
* Thursday, Jan. 12, 7 to 9 p.m.
The location is backstage at the Irvine Bowl, 650 Laguna Canyon Road. Information: (949) 494-3663.
The 2006 Pageant of the Masters, which will have the theme “A Passion for Art,” will be staged from July 7 to Sept. 1. The Festival of Arts is a nonprofit organization.
