Bank in Costa Mesa Vons robbed

A bank inside a Costa Mesa supermarket was robbed at about 6 p.m. Friday, police said.

A man robbed the Bank of America branch inside a Vons supermarket near the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Adams Avenue, Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Gary McErlain said. No one was hurt during the robbery, and the thief stole an unknown amount of cash.

The robber is described as an man in his 40s wearing a tan jacket and a navy blue baseball hat, McErlain said. He said the robber weighed about 170 pounds and was about 5-foot-5.

There was another bank robbery Friday at a Bank of America branch in Corona del Mar. McErlain said it was too early for police to know whether or not the crimes were connected.
