Bennett leads three Sailor placers

COSTA MESA -- Newport Harbor High sophomore wrestler Bryan Bennett finished fourth in the 215-pound class to lead the Sailors at the two-day Estancia Tournament, completed Saturday.

Bennett went 4-2 in the tournament, including a 9-2 loss to Royal’s Miguel Rivera in the third-place match.

Newport Harbor sophomore Zane O’Bourke was sixth at 103 pounds. He was defeated by technical fall (17-0), by Jason Nakagawa from Esperanza in the fifth-place match. O’Bourke was 3-3 in the tournament.

Newport sophomore 130-pounder Josh George won his seventh-place match, 11-6, over a Savanna’s Joey O’Brien. George went 5-2 in the tournament.

Michael Bixler (189), Eddie Charcas (125), Victor George (119) and Craig Nordstrom (145) were among the top 12 to advance from Friday’s first day.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Newport Harbor 10, Coronado 8

CORONADO -- The Sailors escaped with a nonleague victory. Newport Harbor (10-1) led at halftime, 7-6, and held on in the fourth period.

Calli Manderino had three goals and Kally Lucas added two goals and four assists. Leah Robertson had two goals, two assists and four steals for the Sailors.
