High school senior to appear on Jeopardy

Huntington Beach High School senior Andrew Kreitz is scheduled to appear on the annual two-week “Jeopardy! Teen Tournament,” beginning on Feb. 6.

Kreitz is one of 15 students selected from throughout the United States and is the only representative from west of Colorado. He was chosen during an interview process that took place at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa last summer.

Kreitz is captain of the varsity water polo team, as well as its most valuable offensive player. The recipient of the Oiler Spirit award and three varsity letters in swimming, he won three gavels in the school’s Model United Nations program, including the prestigious North American International Model United Nations Conference at Georgetown University. Kreitz was selected Senior of the Month in October and is the student government fundraising commissioner.

H.B. student to attend D.C. summit

Huntington Beach resident Lauren Kirylo has been selected to attend the Presidential Classrooms Future World Leaders Summit to be held this summer in Washington, D.C.

The program is designed to expand students’ knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of institutions and organizations involved in policy-making through discussions, trips to national institutions and interaction with teachers, mentors and peers.

Throughout the week, students work with their peers on a group project, one of which is selected to be published in Newsweek magazine. They will also have the opportunity to earn college credit through the University of Virginia.
