Orange Coast holds off Lasers

COSTA MESA -- Five players scored in double figures for Orange Coast College on the way to an 86-83 victory over Irvine Valley College in Orange Empire Conference men’s basketball Friday night.

Steven Cornett scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Pirates (18-7, 5-0), ranked No. 7 in Southern California and No. 14 in the state.

OCC had to hold off a surging Irvine Valley (15-11, 4-1) team in the second half. The Lasers scored 53 points after halftime.

Reggie Brown hit four three-pointers and scored 12 points for the Pirates. Lance Ortiz added 10 points and 11 assists.

Orange Coast’s next game comes Wednesday at Fullerton, the No. 1 team in the state.
