TRANSITION SUPPORT GROUP

A support group for people going through life changes, loneliness, relationship problems, grieving over the loss of a loved one, medical issues and health problems meets from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of the month.

WIDOWS AND WIDOWERS

A support group meets from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. every Wednesday.

DIABETES DISCUSSION

A discussion group, which provides support for diabetics and their caregivers, meets at 10 a.m. every Friday. The group focuses on dietary concerns, the complications of diabetes, such as neuropathy, diabetic eye problems and the emotional barriers involved with having diabetes.

BLOOD PRESSURE CLINIC

A blood pressure clinic is held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. every Tuesday. Nurses are available to take blood pressure readings. No appointment is necessary.

FITNESS CLASS

Functional senior fitness class -- designed to maintain the ability to successfully perform activities of daily living and to improve or enhance strength, flexibility and posture -- is held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. every Wednesday.

AEROBICS

Low impact aerobics -- designed to fit the personal health and fitness needs of older adults -- is held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. every Monday and Friday.

OASIS SENIOR CENTER

TELEPHONE REASSURANCE

Telephone reassurance is available from the Oasis Senior Center for seniors who have a limited local support system and would like daily telephone contacts.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation services are offered by the Oasis Senior Center to take members to appointments, grocery shopping, and to the center. Call to make an appointment: (949) 644-3244.

VISION SCREENINGS

Visual aid screenings with a Braille Institute representative is offered at Oasis Senior Center for people with limited vision. Call to make an appointment: (949) 644-3244.

WEEKLY WALK

A walking group meets once a week at Oasis Senior Center to enjoy scenic walks in and around Newport Beach.

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING

Blood pressure screenings are conducted at Oasis Senior Center from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month in Room 3.

VISION SEMINARS

The Braille Institute offers free seminars to help those with limited vision live more independently the first Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Room 4.

PREVENTIVE HEALTHCARE

Preventive healthcare services are offered by a nurse from the Orange County Health Department on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Oasis Senior Center. Call to make an appointment: (949) 644-3244.

INSURANCE QUESTIONS

The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program offers a counselor at Oasis to assist with questions about Medicare, HMOs and supplemental and long-term care insurance. Call to make an appointment. (949) 644-3244.

ART APPRECIATION

An art appreciation class offered at Oasis focuses on California Impressionism that captures the color and drama of the unique Southern California landscape. This free class will include trips to local museums.

CHAIR EXERCISE

Chair exercise is offered Mondays. This class is deigned to increase muscular strength and to improve posture and mobility.

COMPUTER CLASSES

Computer classes are scheduled weekly at Oasis. Classes include Internet, Windows, Print Shop, solutions for viruses and more.

CRIBBAGE

A cribbage group meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of every month from 1 to 3 p.m. at Oasis. Cost is $2 per player. All cribbage players welcome.

DRAMA WORKSHOP

A drama workshop for actors and aspiring actors meets at Oasis every Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Practice, learn and have fun.

LEARN ITALIAN

Beginning Italian classes are now offered at Oasis. Learn to read and speak this beautiful language in no time.

LONGEVITY STICK

Longevity stick class meets every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Oasis. This easy to learn form of exercise is similar to t’ai chi and its gentle movements promote physical fitness and mental relaxation.
