A WHOLE NEW COUNCIL
The Newport Beach City Council is scheduled to replace former Councilman John Heffernan at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Council Chambers, 3300 Newport Blvd.
Five community members applied for the seat: Keith Curry, Nancy Jones, Dolores Otting, Scott Peotter and Daniel Wampole.
GIVING BLOOD
Newport Harbor High School’s Student Political Action Committee collected 81 pints of red in its blood drive last October This week, the committee will attempt to top that number with its first drive of the year. On Wednesday morning, American Red Cross nurses will set up booths in the Newport Harbor Girls’ Gym, with action committee officials and other community members volunteering.
Newport Harbor High School is at 600 Irvine Ave., Newport Beach. Volunteers can donate blood from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call (949) 515-6300 for more information.
FLOWER FASCINATION
The “Fascination of Orchids” exposition will take place this weekend at the Orange County Fair and Exposition Center, 88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $3. Information: (949) 645-3112.
Dinner to support shelter
The Friends of the Orange Coast Interfaith Shelter will hold a fundraiser dinner tonight to raise money for homeless families at the shelter as part of its 14th annual FOCIS on dining series. The event will be held at Five Crowns, 3801 East Coast Highway, Newport Beach. Cost is $125 per person. Information: (949) 720-9602.
