CdM captures tourney title

The Corona del Mar High frosh-soph girls’ water polo team won the Newport Harbor Frosh-Soph Tournament on Saturday.

In pool play, the Sea Kings rolled past Peninsula, 12-0, then beat Laguna Hills, 12-1.

CdM (16-2) faced Newport Harbor in the semifinals and defeated the Sailors, 4-1. Newport Harbor had beaten the Sea Kings in two previous meetings -- a nonleague game on Dec. 21 and the final of the El Toro tournament on Jan. 14.

Carissa Dice scored two goals for CdM in the win against the Sailors. CdM’s Allison Peotter and Heather Van Hiel also had goals, and Kate Baldoni recorded four saves.

In the championship game, the Sea Kings blanked Los Alamitos, 3-0. Kate Baldoni made nine saves and Dice, Victoria Kennedy and Elise Molnar scored for CdM.

WRESTLING

* Newport Harbor had five top-three finishers at the Sea View League freshman finals.

Sailors Riley Nance (135-pound division) and Cameron Rausch (215) each won their divisions. Josh Hogsett (140) was runner-up. Nick Bernstein (119) and Michael Perrotta (130) finished third.

Heavyweight Eric Perez was second in the junior varsity meet.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

* Newport Harbor’s frosh-soph team routed Aliso Niguel, 18-0, on Jan. 25, and topped Irvine, 9-2, on Jan. 31.

* The Newport Harbor junior varsity team defeated Aliso Niguel, 11-1, on Jan. 25.
