Weekend film series returns

Regency Theatres is reprising its Weekend Foreign and Indie Film Series with Golden Globe winner and Academy Award-nominated film “Paradise Now,” showing at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

“Paradise Now” follows two Palestinian childhood friends who have been recruited for a strike on Tel Aviv and focuses on their last days together. When they are intercepted at the Israeli border and separated from their handlers, a young woman who discovers their plan causes them to reconsider their actions.

On Feb. 18 and 19, the series will continue with “Pride and Prejudice.”

Tickets for the series are $8 for adults, $5.50 for senior citizens over 60 and children under 12, and $7 for students with valid identification.

Mariachi Divas in concert

The Mariachi Divas will perform their “kicky” hybrid style of music combining mariachi, salsa, merengue and jazz at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Artists Theater, 625 Park Ave.

Founded in 1999, the all-female ensemble is a multicultural group represented by women of Mexican, Cuban, Samoan, Argentinian, Colombian, Japanese, Puerto Rican, Swiss and Anglo decent. They are presented by Laguna Beach Live.

Olympic artist to make appearance

Tim Rogerson, the pop artist who has been named an official artist of the 2006 U.S. Olympic Winter Team, will make a personal appearance from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Forest Avenue Fine Art, 220 Forest Ave.

Rogerson’s piece, “US Olympic Winter Team 2006,” will be released as both a limited-edition digital print in an edition of 250 and an open-edition poster. His contribution will help support the U.S. Olympic Winter Team.
