UCI bested at Hawaii

uci baseball vs. hawaiiHONOLULU, Hawaii -- The UC Irvine baseball team managed just three hits and committed four errors to drop a 3-1 decision to Hawaii Sunday in the rubber game of the three-game nonconference series.

UCI’s defensive miscues led to two unearned runs, which was the difference in the game.

Jaime Martinez had a single and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly for the Anteaters (4-3).

Hawaii is 5-2.

The Anteaters evened the series with a 1-0 victory Saturday night, behind the stellar starting pitching of freshman Scott Gorgen.

Gorgen yielded two hits in 8 1/3 innings to improve to 2-0. He walked two and struck out six. Including a win in his debut against Cal, the right-hander has now failed to allow an earned run in 14 innings, surrendering only four hits.

Freshman Kyle Necke got the final two outs to earn his first save as an Anteater.
