Marshall bounces Estancia

Eagles eliminated on the road in wild-card round.PASADENA -- Estancia High boys’ basketball coach Jason Simco said goodbye to six seniors he coached since they were freshmen as the Eagles fell, 72-58, to Marshall in the wild-card round of the CIF Southern Section Division III-A playoffs Wednesday at Muir High.

Estancia senior Mike McDaniels helped hold Derrick Strings, the Southern Section’s leading scorer at 33.6 points per game, to 17 points. McDaniels scored eight consecutive points to start the second half, as the Eagles pulled even, 39-39.

Estancia led, 49-46, after three quarters, but when McDaniels fouled out, its momentum went with him.

Marshall improved to 21-5.
