‘Eaters win 10th straight

IRVINE ? The No. 2-ranked UC Irvine men’s volleyball team matched a school record from 2003 with its 10th straight win, topping No. 10-ranked Loyola-Chicago a 30-21, 30-26, 30-28, in nonconference match Monday at Crawford Court.

Matt Webber led UCI (16-3) with 23 kills. Webber only made two hitting errors in 33 attempts.

Middle blockers Aaron Harrell and David Smith hit .917 and .733, respectively, for the Anteaters. For Harrell, it was the second-best hitting percentage in one match in school history.

UCI opened a 17-8 lead in the first game, then finished out the sweep to drop the Ramblers to 15-2.

UCI faces Penn State, on a 10-match winning streak of its own, tonight at Crawford Court.
