Corona del Mar takes four

SAN DIEGO ? The Corona del Mar High boys’ volleyball team went 4-0 on the first day of the San Diego Tournament of Champions on Friday. The Sea Kings opened the tournament by beating Capistrano Valley, 25-19, 24-26, 15-11, then moved on to defeat Scripps Ranch (25-14, 25-14), Poway (25-22, 25-20) and Thousand Oaks (25-20, 27-25).

Junior Blaine Nielsen had 33 kills in the four matches. Junior Adam Smith and sophomore Gus Ellis tallied 27 kills apiece in the four matches and junior Phil Bannon totaled 108 assists.

The Sea Kings (6-0) move to the round of 16 and face Woodbridge today.
