Stone-carving workshop

Laguna College of Art and Design is offering a 10-week stone-carving workshop 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays, from April 1 through June 3.

All skill levels are welcome. A fee of $300 for instruction and materials is required.

The workshop will be held outdoors on the campus at 2222 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach.

Gallery awards trips to China

Laguna College of Art and Design students Nicholas Enevoldson and Caroline Peters are the recipients of the annual Passport to China scholarships awarded by the Contemporary Fine Art Gallery.

The scholarship pays for a 10-day trip to China’s Central Academy Art Department in Beijing.

College exhibits ‘Best of Best’

The Laguna College of Art and Design is holding “Best of the Best,” an exhibition of art by students, from Sunday, April 1 to Thursday, April 27.

The opening reception for the event will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 6 in the college gallery.

The event is open to the public with free admission and parking. The exhibition location is at 2222 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach.

Locals take first in battle of the bands

Three Laguna Beach High School students won first place in a battle of the bands held March 11 at Newport Harbor High School.

The students form the band Blade Runner, which includes sophomore guitarist Justin Drucker, junior drummer Max McDonald, junior bass guitarist Brooke Sadler and Newport Harbor High School guitarist Andrew Wilson.

The group performed in front of 800 people and a panel of four professional musicians.
