UCI’s 9 nearly not enough

IRVINE ? The UC Irvine baseball team survived a ninth-inning grand slam by pinch hitter Carter McQuigg and defeated Oral Roberts, 9-8, in the second game of a three-game series at Anteater Ballpark on Friday night.

UC Irvine (16-9) took a 9-4 lead into the ninth inning when McQuigg hit his blast off reliever Kyle Necke. Blair Erickson came on to get the last out to record his eighth save of the season and 35th of his career.

Cody Cipriano led the offensive charge by going 3 for 5 with three RBIs. Gary Dudrey had three hits and scored three runs for the Anteaters.
