Lion is All-American

Vanguard University senior Horace Wormely, who led the Lions to their first NAIA Division I men’s basketball tournament berth in 16 seasons, has been selected first-team All-American.

The 5-foot-6 point guard, who earlier was named Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Year, averaged 14.9 points, 7.5 assists and 4.4 rebounds for Vanguard, which was defeated in overtime by Georgetown of Kentucky in the first round of the NAIA Tournament in Kansas City, Mo.

Wormely, who ranked second in NAIA Division I in assists per game, is the Lions’ first first-team All-American since 1980. He is the program’s first since 2001.

Vanguard senior Levi Seekins earned honorable mention.
