Entertainer lights up Seniors meeting

Entertainer Jacqi Bowe will be the feature guest at the upcoming membership meeting of Laguna Beach Seniors Inc., 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 10. The event will be held at the Senior Center, 384 Legion Street.

Bowe went to UCLA to become a doctor and while in medical school saw a film that changed her life ? “Flashdance.” Sidetracked by show business, the potential Dr. Bowe switched her major to Theater Arts and received a bachelors degree.

Bowe landed parts in film, television, commercials and at theme parks including Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm. Her musical theater credits include the national touring company of “A Chorus Line,” “Carousel,” “Guys and Dolls” and “West Side Story.”

She has danced with Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis Jr., and acted with James Earl Jones and Tim Conway. Bowe sings, dances, acts and plays the ukulele.

She also wrote, produced and starred in her one-woman show, “Emotional #$*@$!!! Garage Sale, or Confessions of a Clutter Nut, a Tale of a Maxed-Out Consumer Baby Boomer.” The show played in Las Vegas, San Francisco, Hollywood, San Jose, San Diego, Palm Springs, Marin, Ventura, Santa Barbara and even Rancho Cucamonga.

For the past six years Bowe has focused her talents on entertaining seniors. She travels all over California performing at retirement communities and senior centers.

Tickets are $10 at the door for nonmembers, which automatically includes membership. Refreshments will be served after the entertainment. Information: (949) 497-2441.

Tax preparation assistance available at Senior Center

Tax preparation and assistance is available by appointment through April 13 at the Laguna Beach Senior Center.

Volunteer counselors trained by the Internal Revenue Service will operate a tax counseling desk from 9 a.m. to noon every Wednesday and Thursday through April 13 at the Center, 384 Legion St.

Persons using this service should bring copies of their previous year’s federal and state tax returns and forms and information for the current tax year, including W-2s and other materials showing income and deductions for the year. To make an appointment, call the Senior Center at (949) 497-2441.

Seniors’ casino trip rolling onward

The Laguna Beach Senior Center is headed to the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Laughlin, Nevada from May 9 to 11.

Cost is $95 for a double room and $110 for a single room. The price includes two buffet meals, driver tip, luggage handling and a two-night stay.
